small Country... BIG problem

From: Channel News Asia
Where is Mas Selamat?
By Alicia Wong and Rosnah Ahmad, TODAY | Posted: 29 February 2008 0842 hrs

Security lapse led to escape of JI leader Mas Selamat, says DPM Wong

SINGAPORE : Businessman Richard Chan usually leaves it to his wife to pick their daughter from the Singapore Chinese Girls' School (SCGS). But on Thursday afternoon, he decided to accompany his wife to the school.

With Mas Selamat Kastari - terror detainee-turned-fugitive - still at large, Mr Chan did not want to take any chances.

"I may have not sent my daughter to school if I had known earlier," he told TODAY.

In what Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng described as a "security lapse", Mas Selamat, head of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network here, gave his guards the slip while he was being taken to the toilet at the Whitley Detention Centre, which is near SCGS.

The massive manhunt for the 47-year-old fugitive, who walks with a limp, continued on Thursday.

"Extensive police, the Singapore Armed Forces and other security resources are still deployed and no efforts will be spared to track him down," the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said last night.

The soldiers were brought in on Thursday to help the thousands of policemen, Gurkhas and men from the elite Special Operations Forces already deployed cover a wider area.

As the security forces continued to maintain its presence in the area around the detention centre, SCGS yesterday issued a letter to parents assuring them that extra precautions had been taken to ensure the students' safety. Said SCGS principal Low Ay Nar: "Cars allowed into the premises are scrutinised more stringently."

Despite the beefed-up security in some areas, it seemed to be business as usual in many parts of Singapore. In Geylang Serai, several people interviewed said they were not worried.

The owner of a textile outlet, Mr Hashim Mohd Noor, believes that Mas Selamat will be caught "sooner or later".

Shopkeeper Chng Keng Chai, in his 80s, added: "I am not worried. If I see him, I'll call the police."

TODAY's checks suggested that many Singaporeans were more curious about the
escape itself.

As Mr K C Cheriyan, director of a childcare centre at Goldhill Avenue and a former military man, said: "How do you escape from such a facility? How is it possible?"

Other questions that have cropped up: Was Mas Selamat acting alone? Why was he not restrained with handcuffs or electronic tags? Shouldn't there have been fail-safe measures in the first place? Would his escape lead to greater security threats here?

Four government MPs also had some questions for Mr Wong in Parliament on Thursday.

Among them was Dr Teo Ho Ping, who wanted to know what was the level of security imposed on Mas Selamat during his detention. "This has raised concerns about our police force's vigilance, and security operating procedures," he said.

MP Ho Geok Choo - noting the possibility that there could be a network operating in the background to help Mas Selamat escape - asked Mr Wong what more the Home Ministry could do to prepare Singaporeans in the event of an emergency.

Mr Wong urged the House "not to speculate" until an independent investigation had completed its work.

He also warned that anyone who helps Mas Selamat would be committing a "grave offence". Under the Penal Code, a person who harbours a fugitive faces a jail sentence that may extend to 15 years or even a life term, as well as a fine.

TODAY understands that Mas Selamat's posters — with his picture and a number to call — are being put up in places such as bus interchanges and MRT stations.
Singapore's neighbours were yesterday also on alert, with Malaysian security forces beefing up patrols and distributing the JI leader's photos to various enforcement agencies. An Indonesian presidential spokesman told online news portal detik.com that Jakarta was coordinating very closely with Singapore’s security and intelligence agencies.

Even as Singaporeans are waiting for answers to the "how", security experts are already grappling with the question, "what next?"

Some believe that Mas Selamat — who once plotted to hijack a plane and crash it into Changi Airport — has four options: Hide and wait until there is a lull in the manhunt; make a dash for it and try to escape to a neightbouring country; or, if he feels cornered, Mas Selamat might resort to taking a hostage or even a reckless act of terror.

Mr Clive Williams, a professor with the Australian Defence Force Academy, predicted that Mas Selamat would try to reach Indonesia. "Because if he stays in Singapore, he’s going to be arrested fairly quickly," Mr Williams told AFP.

*******
IMHO... I doubt he's still in SG...
this is a pretty small country..
the police/army can turn this place upside down in just a matter of days..
so the best place for him to hide would be the neighboring country..
talk about Malaysia.. in which you can simply travel by bus/train..
and where it has the same JI/terrorist issue....

One thing for sure..
Whitley Detention Centre is not that secured after all.. :(

What are the Pros and Cons:
Pros
1. Earn $ in your posts.
2. You can post anything besides smorty, I mean you still have the control on your blog.
3. You got to pick things to write on, they won't force you to write on this particular topic.

Feb 27 (Wednesday)

Work:

Felt the wrath of HR's TL.. :(
hmm... that's why Grace left this company without finishing the contract..
here's the scenario.. sent a document to her for review..
here's her comment:

There's still words like 'FN' found in the doc! Please search the whole doc and replace.

I was like.. huh?...
she's mad 'coz she sees FN(Finance) on the doc..
i know it's my fault, 'coz i'm from
that team and all of my documents are tagged with FN
and i'm too excited to submit my doc.. forgot
to change them to HR..

..and you don't have to shout...

hey! but at least she said Please :P
anyways.. i'm not offended..."asa!"
i was actually laughing at her reply..
hehe.. yeah! be mad... create your own misseries in
small things.. :)

another thing..
you should probably realize that
i'm working on this one to help your team..
you don't own me.. shheeesh...
wish we could have some work in FN..
so I can go back to the "lesser evil" :P

Life:

hmmmm... currently in a look out mode..
it's hard.. yup pretty hard to find a boarder...
a lot of things to consider..

first of all is trust..
we got 2 kids in the house..
so we can't just trust other people
to live with us..

Mark told me to find girls..
'coz you can easily trust women..
what I said was:
"actually.. marameng tumatawag n babae..
akala nila girl din ako..
eh xempre masisisi mo ba cla kung ayaw
nilang me ka-roommate na guy...
cnabe ko na nga na posas nila ako
pag matutulog... hehehe :P
ala p rin..."

hope we can manage a plan like
how to find trusty boarders..
so we don't end up looking for another place..
'coz I definitely can't shoulder that huge rent... :(

actually i can live the flat..
but i feel sorry for Mark..
he's going to pay me back my 600 deposit..
plus he's going to look for a new place..
of course he can't live on their own on the flat..
the rent is basically steep...
it's hard to shift places when you got family..
plus points to the singles!!! woot!!!

Misc:

Last night watched..
Death Note: Last Name

overall the movie is great..
lots of twist and turn..
as Light and L outsmart each other..
you probablly won't guess that everything
seems to be planned from the start..
kinda weird thinking that a person
can all came up of those possible scenarios
and had something prepared if that occurr..
of yeah! this is fictional..
so WTF!!!

Man Stuff: Cars

Remember the countless articles I had regarding
chix.. women... chix... whores... chix..
in singapore... hmmmm time to post another stuff
we usually drool about..

CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cars in Singapore is definitely a luxury..

Some additional expenses need to consider in buying a car from ladybird
hdb season car park (depends if it's open or multi-story or both) = $65-95/month (free if you're staying in a condo)
Road tax = $900/yr
Insurance = $1700/yr
ERP charges = depends how often you go or pass by to the city
mall parking rates = usually 0.50/30 minutes during off-peak
Maintenance = $400/yr
COE = $13K

it's a luxury and you'll waste some good deal of money
why not buy a "real" luxury car... :)

small compilation :)

Left my ferarri in front of our condo... *wish

one thing for sure.. I won't be seeing this kind of car..
stuck in the middle of traffic in PH..
no offence me fellow pinoys if carnappers would kill just to steal

your Honda Civic... what else would they do
just to grab this hawtness..

Ferarri Showroom... can i have the gray one please.. Take-Away :P

Hmmm... blue... red... yellow??... *i would kill in this guy's position right now...
the only problem he got.. is on what color he'll choose...

shiny red devil..if you're wishing for something..
why not wish for a F1..

hey! there's a F1 race in SG

another haqwt chix lurking in the street..

hate the color.. but love the car..

what's up with italian cars...

i remember while watching kinda old movie titled Crazy People..
Maserati can have an ad:
It's too small to get in, but too simple to get laid.

nice concept car from toyota

nice concept.. but too white for me..

nice... looks like it's staring it me..

hey! don't forget about SUBARU!!!!! :)

Sentai!!!

Funny as HELL!!!

Feb 26 (Tuesday)

Work:
[HR mode]
Now on testing phase..
testing seems good..
but the problem is you have to test in all scenarios..
which actually is the right thing and very very tedious :(
another thing that makes this testing sooo borring..
was that i have to test the email notification of th workflow..
which is actually acting pretty weird..
it takes some GD 10-15 mins before the email arrived,
and I can't start the other scenario without verifying
the results in the email.

Life:
Last night met with my friend Nana in Redhill..
in MRT saw this hawt chix on her mid 30s...
she's in a formal attire... fresh from the office kinda look...
what really struck me was her weird habit..
she usually stick her toughe out.. and lick her upper lips..
and it aint just quick thingy..
it lasts for a minute or minute-half..
while looking at me..
On myself..
"You better not come near me..
or i'll gonna bite those lips.. hehe"

While in Raffles Place Station. waiting for the MRT to Boon Lay..
some weir guy wearing this patterened shirt, shoes, pant, and bags..
wow!!! plus he has this huge cardboard whoch got the same pattern...
as in wow!!!!!!! you can hardly see him...
he's like a chamelion :P..
you can only sense that he's in there.. coz he's listening
to his phone in which the volume is in max...
so we can really hear the music..
some show-off-chamelion :P

Misc:
movie marathon again..
what do you expect in this..
work-home-work routine.. :(

Gone Baby Gone
One of the best movie i've seen this month...
lots of....
Ahhhhhh...
I didn't know that...
WTF??!!!
that sucks ball... as in big time sucker!! :P

One nice thing about the movie is that
there's a question at the end... which
it doesn't say that this is right/wrong..
and I still don't know what will I do
if I'm at that situation...

here goes:
What if the kid was kidnapped
by some caring/nice people..
because they knew that they can raise the kid
a lot better than their pot-head mother...

will you call the police to report a kidnapping?
Or just pretend you didn't see anything?

Resident Evil Extinction
what will you get..
if you put a hawt chix..
big guns.. machete..
blood squirting zombies??..
and naked chix of course..
A KICK ASS movie!!!
woot!!

SG Sign 5: Ugly Curry Puff

I know reverse psychology do sometimes work..
but reverse-marketing.... FTW???!!! :P

Feb 25 (Monday)

Work:
hmmm... Monday... sucks!!
start of the work week...
here comes the HR tickets as they promised :(
It's pretty hard..
'coz of the set-ups/cofigs
i needed to do to access their environment...
actually a simple 2 hr change..
put me back to 6 working hrs...
yeah! for real!!!!

Life:
Last weeked is totally suck balls...
my roommate just told me last saturday..
that he'll be transfering to a condo..
around 1st week of March...
and I was so you mean..
I only got 2 weeks to find for a replacement..
as if it's just THAT simple..
to grab someone from the street.. and have them pay..
1 month deposit.. and move all his stuffs to our place...
common!!!.... as usual.. my silent-type attidtude..
didn't produce any of those statements..
i just smiled... and AMPOTA!!!!!...

so hurriedly created an ad in PinoySG
and an entry in this blog to show the overall
pics of the flat...

hopefuly I can found someone...

Misc:
Nothing much going'on...
had a movie marathon last weekend..
from the..

I Am Legend..

a very decent movie
seems plausible but hope it won't happen..
btw.. is it just me..
that when I saw Will met this another
hawt survivor.. first thing in my mind..
is that they're going to have some kick ass
sex.. hey!!... they both have a 3yr sex-drought.. :P

Meet the Spartans...
have a good laugh on this one..
although a couple so so scenes.. like..
the Yo Mama battle, *the funniest Yo Mama I'ved seen was that of The White Chix
the Deal or No Deal FTW!!!!! *common i didn't even smile on this scene..
Too much kicking.. *the first kick and britney part is nice... but the icluding AI... duh!!..

Across the Universe
ahhhh... musical...
i usually love musical films..
from Moulin Rouge.. Chicago to Hair Spray..
but this one kinda bored the heck out of me..
maybe it's because of the hippies :P

Darjeeling Limited
had a few tickles in this movie...
oh crap!.. i forgot all about this film..
sorry i think I fall asleep :(

Run Fat Boy Run
oh BRIT comedy!!!!!...
i'm a sucker for brit humor...
overall the movie is great..
though we all know what will be the ending..
the fat boy will finish the race..
anf the asshole will be a sore looser...
what i found abt this movie is it's humor...
2 thumbs up on his best friend..
the one who's always but naked..

Assasination of Jesse James
i really though this movie is something..
maybe due to lack of background..
to 'ol country stories and stuffs..
that why I found this movie boring and dragging...

3:10 to Yuma
From the main cast..
Russel Crowe and Christian Bale..
i have a feeling this is a good movie..
and it does... didn't dissapoint me at all...
cool fight scenes... nice sharp-shooter mexican...
